Hello everyone,

We are about to get our plate of stories put together and I just want to say thank you for considering us for the print of your tale. It is our desire that your story shines well among other stories that are equal in caliber. Our goal as editors on Anthology IV is to be exceptional gatekeepers. We won't have you looking bad as well as we won't surround your story with bad ones either.

Our motto for these anthologies is a simple one. If the story before yours isn't good, then it is assumed the reader won't read anything beyond that point. That means we have an obligation to our readers to deliver great stories over and over so everyone gets the chance to be read. It is our greatest fear to hear that a person sat the book down after reading a few stories and didn't pick it back up. Naturally, you can't please everyone with certain topics but you can entertain them when they aren't expecting it.

You may have heard the old saying about a novel: "The first twenty pages were slow but it really got going later." In an Anthology, that just can't happen at any time. Each story is a contained compact experience and if a story fails to please, the reader can always walk away feeling they had enough good experiences to feel no obligation to complete it. That is such a pity given the hopes of everyone involved. So when a story is worked on over and over, please keep in mind that we have a number of stories under our belt which your story has to either meet or exceed. We do not tire for improvement, even though you do. We have the bar that our other writers expect to be honored, and that folks is my job in a nutshell.

With every painstaking detail within these books, we are constantly asking ourselves if we are letting everyone down. Our responsibility is to deliver you a book that you aren't ashamed to pass around to your loved ones, family and friends. If we fail at that, then we let down a lot more people than just yourself. In turn, we just hope you remember that when you feel stressed and considering the idea that this isn't worth it or that we are too demanding, that you remember this passage before you bolt or do something rash. There is a lot more happening than just frustration during this process. You are growing as a writer and we are helping you with all the tools we can give you. Consider the time we have all put into making your story great before deciding to abandon the goal.

In the end, we promise you will grow leaps and bounds as a writer. We have seen many stories go from absolute train wrecks into masterpieces. A few authors that worked with us in previous Anthologies are now at the top of the contest. They have learned a lot about writing and themselves which allows them to keep trying and keep improving. So don't be afraid to invest yourself into this undertaking for you will see yourself become a better writer.

Writing a story is fun...editing it is another story.
